Remote Backup Solutions

Remote Backup

Backups require redundancy. One must keep one or more copies of the same files at different points where they should be easily retrieved at that given point.

Data Backup Options

Numerous users make use of a single hard disk drive external enclosure, which sits next to the workstation or server, to back up the data. Yes, it is least expensive way of making a backup. However, it is not a recommended approach for the business users because it does not have flexibility and expandability and fair level of protection.

Tape backup system is reliable, but it requires lots of ongoing maintenance measures, like cleaning the drives, enough tapes for rotation, kept off-site... etc, to guarantee reliability. Failing to do so, your data will be at risk. Also, there is no encryption method with tapes. The data can be read from other drives. If your data is sensitive, back up by tape may not be the best option

Remote Data Backup

Although the cost of the hard disk drives are very inexpensive, it does not help to mirror your data by adding more disks to the in-house network because a single catastrophe like virus, fire, flood, power surge, etc. can destroy everything from your local data center. Instead, it is recommended to store the encrypted backup copy in an off-site location, such as your home or another office location, to a specified FTP server. It is as easy as you do the backups like inside your local network.

The 9-11 tragedy in New York City is a very good example. Many companies had to close down their business because they kept their undamaged backups in the building. So, only for business who has back up data off-site survived even when catastrophe happens.
